ABVP Delegation met Smt. Smriti Irani, Union Minister for HRD

A five member delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) met the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani at her office on 7th June 2014 and demanded a complete rollback of the Four Years' Undergraduate Program(FYUP) being run in the University of Delhi.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to the minister which also highlighted the demands of new colleges, more hostels and filling permanent teaching and non-teaching positions in the university.

For the last one year, ABVP has been continuously building a students' movement against the anti-student and anti-poor FYUP and its autocratic and undemocratic implementation in Delhi University. The delegation discussed in detail various issues related to FYUP and underlined the need to withdraw it at the earliest. ABVP requested the Minister to take some action as soon as possible.

Smt. Smriti Irani said that the University of Delhi is an autonomous body and she expressed concern on the students' struggle within it. She said whatever will happen will be in students' favour. She wished good luck to students for the new academic year.

The delegation comprised of ABVP's National Secretary Rohit Chahal, Delhi State President Dr. Manu Kataria, Delhi State Secretary Saket Bahuguna, State Joint Secretary Vishu Basoya and DUSU President Aman Awana.

The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) has also sought an appointment with the minister to discuss issues related to the university. It has been given an appointment on Monday.
