ABVP leaders meet HRD minister over rollback of FYUP - The Indian Express

Student members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) met the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday demanding the ministry act on rolling back the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) offered by DU.

In a memorandum submitted to the minister, the ABVP delegation had termed FYUP as ‘ anti-student and anti-poor ‘. It had further alleged that it’s implementation in the University has been autocratic and undemocratic.

The memorandum also highlighted the need for opening new colleges under DU, additional hostel facilities at colleges and filling of permanent teaching and non-teaching positions in DU.

“The minister interacted with us at length and expressed concern about the students’ struggle with relation to FYUP. But she also underlined the fact that DU is an autonomous institution, and assured us that whatever decision is taken, it will be in the best interest of students,” Saket Bahuguna, general secretary, ABVP, said.

It is learnt that the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) is also expected to meet Irani on several issues including FYUP on Monday.
