HYDERABAD: Posters and pamphlets eclipsed books and other academic paraphernalia at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) here on Sunday. The reason is that election fever gripped the university. Student organisations at UoH are undertaking campaigning for the ensuing student union elections of the university, scheduled to take place on September 25.
Campaigning has picked up in both online and offline channels. Representatives of organisations are taking up campaigning at hostels and messes, and distributing manifestos and candidates’ lists.
The campaigning which started on the evening of September 20 will end on September 24. The student organisations contesting the elections are: Students Federation of India (SFI), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Ambedkar Students Association (ASA), Bahujan Students Front (BSF), Tribal Students Forum (TSF), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi Vibhagham (TRSV).
Four students organisations-ASA, BSF,TSF and NSUI-formed an alliance under United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Dean of students welfare (DSW) Prof P Prakash Babu said an election commission comprising five senior faculty members has been constituted to conduct elections. “Internal security has been arranged at important places at the university. So far, students are cooperative and the process is going on smoothly,” Prakash Babu said. He said the students union elections are being organised based on Lyngdoh Committee’s recommendations, with some minor modifications.
ABVP panel for the UHSU is announced and the campaign is on full swing, we are confident of clean sweeping the panel as we did in Delhi University. We appeal the student community to Vote, Support and Elect our panel.
